Dr Tan Eng Loy is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist in Singapore.

 

He completed undergraduate studies at the National University of Singapore and earned his post-graduate qualifications with the National University of Singapore as well as the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG) in the UK. He is recognised as a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist by the Specialist Accreditation Board, Ministry of Health, Singapore. He was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in 2018 for advancing the science and art of obstetrics and gynaecology.

 

Experienced in pregnancy care, natural deliveries, caesarean sections ("C-sections"), management of breech babies at term (including external cephalic version, ECV), general women’s health, women's health screening, menopause-care, contraception & benign gynaecological surgery, Dr Tan also has a special interest in high-risk pregnancy care.  An obstetrician dedicated to providing personalised maternity care, he is a strong advocate for maternal choice and strives to help expectant mothers go through their childbirth experience in a safe, positive and life-enhancing manner.

Dr Tan Eng Loy graduated from medical school at the National University of Singapore in 2000. He trained in obstetrics and gynaecology at the KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital and the Singapore General Hospital. He obtained his Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologist (MRCOG) (United Kingdom) in 2006 and was also conferred Masters of Medicine (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) by the National University of Singapore in the same year. Between 2011-2012, he practiced obstetrics in a busy maternity unit in London to further hone his skills in obstetric management and deliveries. For advancing the science and art of obstetrics and gynaecology, he was recognised and admitted as a Fellow of the RCOG (FRCOG) in 2018.

He served in the Singapore public healthcare system after graduating from medical school and worked as an Associate Consultant, Consultant and then Senior Consultant at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Singapore General Hospital from 2008 to 2021.

Pregnancy

Dr Tan is experienced in the treatment of high risk pregnancies, looking after pregnant mothers with hypertension, thyroid disorders, cardiac problems, diabetes mellitus, renal issues haematological disorders and autoimmune conditions. He continues to serve as a visiting consultant at SGH at the obstetric medicine high-risk pregnancy clinic and gestational diabetes clinic. His other areas of interest include intrapartum care, electronic fetal monitoring, obstetric emergencies and trauma in pregnant women.

An active contributor on articles on women’s health in magazines and symposiums, Dr Tan is also certified by the Advanced Life Support Group in the United Kingdom as a trainer on the Managing Medical and Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma (mMOET) courses.  The mMOET is an internationally-recognised course that trains senior doctors in life-saving techniques to treat pregnant women with serious complications. He is also certified as an instructor on the UK-based PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) course and helped to bring updated PROMPT-based training to residency training in Singhealth. He has taught extensively on mMOET and PROMPT courses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand since 2008. From 2016 to 2019, he led multiple volunteer mission trips to the Indian states of Bangalore and Bhopal to conduct medical simulation education. These trips were well-received and have helped to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

Dr Tan served as adjunct assistant professor to both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, as well as the Duke-NUS Medical School. He was also the Associate Programme Director for OBGYN in Singhealth. He was actively involved in undergraduate and post-graduate training within his discipline and conducted regular obstetric emergency drills and courses for medical and nursing staff. His passion in educating future generations of medical students and specialists has earned him numerous accolades.  Dr Tan extends his skill and passion in teaching to his patients, providing them with knowledge and clear explanations to understand and improve their health.
