Dr Tan Eng Loy is a highly experienced senior consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at E K and E L Women's Clinic. Formerly a senior consultant at Singapore General Hospital, Dr Tan brings extensive expertise and a commitment to holistic, personalised, and compassionate care.

Dr Tan Eng Loy graduated from the National University of Singapore's medical school in 2000. He trained in obstetrics and gynaecology at KK Women’s & Children’s Hospital and Singapore General Hospital. In 2006, he earned his Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (MRCOG) in the United Kingdom and was also awarded a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics & Gynaecology by the National University of Singapore.
Between 2011 and 2012, Dr Tan further honed his skills in obstetric management and deliveries by practising in a busy National Health Service (NHS) maternity unit in London, UK. For his contributions to advancing the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, he was recognised as a Fellow of the RCOG (FRCOG) in 2018.
Before starting his private practice at E K and E L Women's Clinic, Dr Tan served in the Singapore public healthcare system, where he held positions as an Associate Consultant, Consultant, and finally Senior Consultant at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Singapore General Hospital, from 2008 to 2021.
Education & Experience
Dr Tan is experienced in managing high-risk pregnancies, including those with complications such as high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, cardiac problems, diabetes mellitus, renal issues, haematological disorders, and autoimmune conditions. He continues to serve as a visiting consultant at Singapore General Hospital (SGH) in the Gestational Diabetes Clinic. His other areas of interest include intrapartum care, electronic fetal monitoring, obstetric emergencies, and trauma in pregnant women.

An active contributor to articles on women’s health in magazines and symposiums, Dr Tan is certified by the Advanced Life Support Group in the UK as a trainer for the Managing Medical and Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma (mMOET) courses. This internationally recognised course trains senior doctors in life-saving techniques for treating pregnant women with serious complications. Dr Tan is also certified as an instructor for the UK-based PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT) course and has helped integrate updated PROMPT-based training into residency programmes at SingHealth. Since 2008, he has taught extensively on mMOET and PROMPT courses in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. From 2016 to 2019, he led multiple volunteer mission trips to Bangalore and Bhopal in India, providing medical simulation education. These trips were well-received and contributed to improved maternal and child health outcomes.
Contributor, speaker and educator at local and international professional events
Dr Tan served as an adjunct assistant professor at both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine at the National University of Singapore and Duke-NUS Medical School. He was also the Associate Programme Director for Obstetrics and Gynaecology at SingHealth. Dr Tan was actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate training within his field, regularly conducting obstetric emergency drills and courses for medical and nursing staff. His dedication to educating future generations of medical students and specialists has earned him numerous accolades. Dr Tan extends his teaching skills and passion to his patients, offering them clear explanations and valuable knowledge to enhance their understanding and improve their health.

Dr Tan believes that clear and effective communication is essential for providing the best possible care for mothers. Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, he excels in counselling and explaining complex medical conditions and diagnoses in simple, easy-to-understand terms, free from medical jargon.

During his time at SGH, Dr Tan was actively involved in improving safety and communication within healthcare teams. In recognition of his efforts, he received the SGH Safety Team Award in 2019 as a Service Champion. Dr Tan is committed to service with a heart and has consistently earned the SGH "Service with a Heart" Award. He was also honoured with the SPRING Singapore Excellence Service Award (EXSA) – Silver in healthcare in 2009.
